bingham stretch, Kennebec River
Bingham trip overview
The nine miles between Wyman and Williams dam is one of the most unique and challenging fisheries in the state.
Here you can fish for quality brook trout and landlocked salmon, but it’s also one of only two rivers in Maine you have the opportunity to fish for wild Rainbow trout. The feeder streams provide an excellent spawning habitat, and the quality conditions created by Wyman dam allow for healthy growth rates. This river gives up some very large fish!
The fishing here can be tough. Like most tailwaters, the fish tend to be selective. Just when you think you have things dialed in, everything changes. Success requires knowledge of the fishery, having the right approach, and being efficient and adaptable throughout the day. It’s quality over quantity here. If you’re the type of angler who loves the hunt, this is the river for you.
We’ll be fishing out of a 16’ jon/jet boat. Water levels change frequently here and that can drastically affect the fishing. Being able to travel up and down stream and recycle productive runs is key for success on this often challenging fishery.
The boat is outfitted with front and back casting decks, and set up to row much like a drift boat. Although we’ll anchor in some runs, much of the day is spent drifting different sections of river, which allows us to cover more water and search out feeding fish.
Like with any guided trip, everything is included as well as snacks and a shore lunch. Once you book, you’ll receive trip checklists and details on what to expect, what to wear, lunch choices, as well as lodging options.
